A little time for ME art

I'm kind of liking the collage of stamps for this print.

My School Christmas tradition: Cookie-Cutter CERAMIC Ornaments

I just realized that I have been making and painting ceramic Christmas ornaments with our elementary school since my son was in preschool. He is now in 4th grade, so it has been 6 years in a row! Originally I was able to use the local university kiln, but I recently purchased my own kiln. It has been much easier for me to fire close by.  I am not able to glaze (the shiny coat) and fire ornaments in the Winter due to the super cold temperature in my garage! The glaze would crack right off after  being fired because it needs to cool very very slowly. So we painted the ornaments after the first (bisque) firing was complete.

This year with the help of other teachers and moms we cookie-cut, fired, and painted 90+ kindergarten and 20+ 4th grade elementary students' Christmas Ornaments! I loved every moment of it. This is what it's about.

Some of the 4th grade freshly painted ornaments. . . H.I.L.A.R.I.O.U.S.

Below are only a handful of the freshly painted ceramic ornaments that the kindergarten classes painted! They used glitter puff-paint to detail their ornaments and it worked perfectly.

Thank goodness my 2 year-old was able to play at a friend's house while we painted the ornaments at the school. This picture was taken at home, during our  mommy "paint date." He's a super awesome painter when I don't leave him on his own. I cherish creating memories and hand-eye cordination skills at the same time.

I know these are simple and goofy ornaments,  but I am addicted to helping kids  believe they can create art at whatever level or medium it may be.

Perfect timing for DIY Wood Slice Ornaments

My daughter (12 years old) and I (fill in a young age here for me) dug out my old wood burner that I received back a few year ago for my childhood Christmas present (Seriously I think I was 12 years old when I got it!). I'm a bit of a sentimental hoarder. You can find the wood slice ornaments and wood burner at your local craft store or on Amazon. These are year-round keepers. I want to make more for other occasions besides Christmas.

These are our simple but beautiful Christmas ornaments for Christmas 2015!
TIP: Practice burning designs on scrap wood before the burning onto a nice piece of wood.

My 25+ year-old wood burner is still burning strong...

It's DECEMBER and it looks like FALL

Usually we have snow here in Idaho by December and it feels like Christmas is just around the corner. But we don't have any snow outside! It's raining and it's brown outside. Luckily We made doodle leaf art in the 4th grade right at the end of November to display until the snow arrives...right?

It feels like forever (actually has been a while) since I've posted on my blog, because it has literally been just over two years! EEEK! Life has been busy with family and art, just no art posts... But here I am! I hope you enjoy my posts as much as I enjoy making art with kids and a few of my own. I plan to share a few past posts as I try to keep up with the current art projects we are working on.

Here are the 4th grade
DOODLE LEAF ART PROJECTS:

Super Simple: Doodle leaves with black marker, color with colored pencils or crayons, and finish with chalk pastels around the leaves.

Using different mediums together such as markers and pastels creates a more dimensional affect.

Happy FALL... During WINTER!
